Realizing the fact that Education is the right of any child, the JM& SJM Centre has been working to provide basic education for the children to the slums of Sanjay Nagar, Kurar, Malad East. It was a humble beginning in the year 1986.
What started as Balwadi classes in Hindi Medium was later converted into an English Medium School and has today blossomed into the present St. Thomas Mar Thoma School, Kurar. Our school generally re-opens for this academic year in June. A Blessing prayer was held at the School, as seen in 2017 by Rev. A. T. Zachariah and Rev. Nitin John Chacko on Monday 19″ June. Our School is blessed with the staff strength of the dedicated group of 45 teachers, 13 non-teaching staff and 5 security personnel. The staff works with dedication and commitment in the School’s limited and difficult environment under the efficient leadership of the Head Mistress Mrs. Joice Dias. The Headmistress and the teachers take efforts to improve the academic performance of our students and help them to understand the value of education to mold their future life. Our school had a 91% pass record at the SSC Board Examination held in March 2017. And the highest percentage scored by our student was 88.6%. We also help the students who pass their 10th-Board exam to get their admission in Junior Colleges. Last year during the month of March 2018, 80 students appeared for the SSC Board examination. We sincerely thank Mrs. Joice Dias and all the teachers and non-teaching staff who worked hard to ensure effective and efficient management for the betterment of our School. The office bearers of the JM& SJM Centre have been deeply involved in the administration of the School. It was God’s abundant Mercy that we were able to buy the additional space next to the School last year and this helped us to add classrooms, organize children’s activity, etc. Above all we thank all of you who prayed for this School.
